I'm leaving today ... I want to be a part of it - New York, New York!!
Three weeks in the Big Apple - New York City - what a fabulous adventure! My husband, two young daughters and I ventured east this summer to immerse ourselves in urban culture. For 21 days we traversed Manhattan and Long Island - walking in Central Park, riding the subway, enjoying pizza and cannolis in Brooklyn and hotdogs at Coney Island, visiting museums and national monuments, and watching Yankees baseball and Broadway theatre.
We were awed and completely satisfied to be "in the heart of it" for a time. We also renewed our appreciation for the peaceful solitude we have in our small town life. Our goal is to somehow merge the two - to have open minds for the wide and diverse world coupled with a simple contentness in the day to day life we lead in our small radius here in Colorado. Artistically the trip is still sinking in. I had thought I would experience periods of divine and overwhelming creativity and come back with fantastic song lyrics and melodic ideas. As it was, exploring the city with two small children, there were few moments of quiet solitude in which to contemplate. I know the songs will come in their own time now that we are back to life as we live it. I also know that the experience of exploring NYC for 3 weeks - from historic Greenwich Village to eclectic Brooklyn neighborhoods - has caused growth in me and will not go undocumented in song. So stayed tuned for songs and stories born through my experience in the city that never sleeps ...
